Expansion

Patients coming to Delhi AIIMS for treatment will not have to worry about ICU beds. All the departments of AIIMS will increase the number of ICU and HDU beds at their level. AIIMS director has asked to prepare a proposal in this matter by February 28.

In fact, the number of ICU and HDU beds in AIIMS is less than 10 per cent. After the implementation of the AIIMS master plan, this number can increase to above 30 percent. At present, the existing ward beds can be converted to provide ICU and HDU beds to the patients. Augmentation of the facility at AIIMS will also help in transition to higher critical care capacity in a graded manner.

AIIMS Director Dr M Srinivas has ordered that all departments will set up mini ICU and HDU wards within their wards. Efficient use of existing human resources would be achieved by implementing task shifting and task sharing approach. These will also help in expanding the pool of trained human resources in critical care. Also, employment opportunities will increase.
